Important points on the Larned High School Wristband Entrance Policy: 1. All patrons, ages 3 and up, must wear a wristband in order to be able to enter the game. Prices for admittance will remain the same: K-12 $5, and Adults are $6. So yes, a child can get in for free, but still be required to wear a wristband. LHS students are the only exception as we will track them on a pass list. If a LHS student does not get on the pass list, they will be required to wear a wristband if they wish to attend. The student section is for LHS students only. All other USD 495 students should be seated with parents. 2. Each participant will get a set amount of wristbands, unless otherwise noted by administration. 3. LHS administration may require patrons to utilize the grassy areas around the football field if the stands become too crowded. Social distancing is required. Masks are required at all common spaces: entrance/exit, concessions, restrooms and in the stands if you can't social distance. Temperature checks will be performed at all indoor events. Masks required at all times inside. 4. These policies are considered to be best practice in order for our students to be able to compete for as long as they are able. Guidelines could be tightened or loosened based on guidance from county health personnel, the CKL, and KSHSAA. 5. Refer back to the original release for entire details. If you have questions, please call LHS at 285-2151.

On Wednesday, Governor Kelly announced that she is delaying the start of school in Kansas until after Labor Day. With this announcement it will affect our school calendar for the 2020-2021 year. We are in the process of updating that calendar with the new start date that also reflects the state requirements for hours. We are also working to develop plans for the reopening of schools based on three goals: 1. Return to school for in person education, while providing additional educational opportunities at parental request; 2. Being able to maintain in person school operations throughout the 2020-2021 school year; and 3. Provide both equitable and suitable, teaching and learning that meets district/state adopted outcomes. Enrollment has opened. Please complete the enrollment so we can make appropriate plans for the start of school and ensure appropriate resources can be arranged. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue to navigate these changes.

The following guidelines will be put in place for the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony on July 11th, 2020: 1. We will utilize both sides of Earl Roberts Stadium to provide ample space for seating. Patrons may also bring lawn chairs and utilize the track. The football field is off limits to those not involved with the ceremony. USD 495 encourages patrons to adhere to social distancing guidelines as best as possible. 2. Masks are recommended, but not required. Larned HS grads are not required to wear a mask. 3. Graduates' seating will be situated approximately 6 feet apart to adhere to social distancing guidelines. 4. Graduates will receive their diplomas, but handshakes will be discouraged by USD 495 personnel with the graduates.

Congratulations to Austyn Moyer-Mantel and Jaycius Crockett-Armijo for a top 5% finish at 13th place in this semester's Stock Market Game in Mr. Coles Financial Literacy class. Austyn and Jaycius competed against 247 other middle school teams across the state. Each team starts with $100,000 of fictional money to spend on the stock market. The teams are able to use the real time prices from the New York Stock Exchange to enter into trades. The goal is to purchase and sell stocks and bonds to increase how much your portfolio is worth. It is most impressive that Austyn and Jaycius placed this high with a positive net return since the game uses real time prices and their portfolio had to survive the economy's decline due to COVID-19.

Tonight, April 17th, Larned High School will again be joining schools around the country by turning on our football stadium lights at 8:20 p.m., and leaving them lit for 20 minutes and 20 seconds to honor the graduating class of 2020. We want all community members to be aware in case people are wondering why the stadium lights are on. At 8:20 p.m. tonight, look towards Earl Roberts Stadium to see the glow of our support for the LHS graduating class of 2020. Please, continue to follow the social distancing guidelines set forth by the CDC, and stay safe, and stay healthy. We will continue this tribute until May 15th. #larnedpride #bethelight

Parents and Guardians of the 6th grade band and vocal students: Mr. Jones and I organized and are holding a 6th grade mini music festival with our Larned Students on Thursday, March 12. We will have two faculty members from BCC here to listen to and provide feedback to several soloists and ensembles along with the entire 6th grade band and a group of 6th vocal students. We will hold the mini-festival right after school on Thursday the 12th with the band and the vocal students performing first so as many students as need to leave will be finished with their part of the festival before 4pm. Our judges will provide constructive feedback to each performing group including soloists and ensembles. As I'm sure most of you have heard from your students, they have been practicing solos with our accompanist or in small ensembles on several occasions and they are eagerly anticipating this opportunity to perform. All of you are welcome to watch any of the performers. We will have the large groups perform in the band/choir room and the soloists perform in the conference room across the hall. To help with after school rides and schedules as best we can, the band will perform as close to 3:30 as possible followed by the vocal ensemble. Then we will start with smaller ensembles and work our way to soloists. This allows the largest number of students to leave as soon as they wish after we/they perform. Students do not need any special clothing for our mini-festival. They can wear what ever they choose. We expect to have the entire mini-festival completed by 5 pm. Please help us make this a great experience for the musicians by making alternate arrangements for transportation home where necessary. Thank you for all you do to support music in our schools. Contact Mr. Lyman with questions.

All of you are welcome to watch any of the performers. We will have the large groups perform in the band/choir room and the soloists perform in the conference room across the hall. To help with after school rides and schedules as best we can, the band will perform as close to 3:30 as possible followed by the vocal ensemble. Then we will start with smaller ensembles and work our way to solosists. This allows the largest number of students to leave as soon as they wish after we/they perform. Students do not need any special clothing for our mini-festival. They can wear what ever they choose. We expect to have the entire mini-festival completed by 5pm. Please help us make this a great experience for the musicians by making alternate arrangements for transportation home where necessary. Thank you for all you do to support music in our schools. Contact Mr. Lyman with questions.

We still take the box top clippings, but now they want you to scan your receipts to earn the box tops. You can download the app and select Larned Elementary School. Then you scan receipts and it checks for any box tops for you. The app automatically adds to the school you have chosen. A few people have even sent in their receipts for us to scan.
