Parent-teacher conferences are a great opportunity to check in with your child’s teachers and get a clear picture of how things are going, both academically and personally. It’s a chance to work together and support your child’s progress.

The format may vary depending on grade level or time of year. Conferences may be traditional or student-led.

Meet the Teacher Appointments

We’re excited to offer Meet the Teacher Appointments on August 20 in place of our usual back-to-school night. These meetings give families a chance to connect with their child’s teacher, ask questions, and share anything that might be helpful before the first day of school.

We encourage all families to attend and to bring their student along. It’s a simple way to start the year with strong communication and a shared understanding of each child’s needs.

Traditional Conferences

  • Typically Pre-K - 12th Grade, Fall Semester

  • Pre-K - 5th Grade, Spring Semester

Student-Led Conferences

In grades 6–8, spring conferences are student-led. These give students the opportunity to share their work, reflect on their learning, set goals, and build communication and accountability skills.

Parent-teacher conferences for the 2025–26 school year are scheduled for August 20, October 13, and February 16.

Preparing for a Conference

Before Your Traditional Conference

Review Your Child’s Progress
Take a few minutes to look over recent report cards, test scores, and any assignments or notes sent home. This is the perfect time to give How's School Going? a try! Notice areas where your child is doing well, and where they may be struggling.

Prepare Questions and Concerns
Jot down any specific questions you have about your child’s academics, behavior, or social interactions. You might ask about:

  • How your child participates in class

  • Areas where they can improve or be challenged more

  • Ways to support their learning at home

Talk with Your Child
Ask how school is going from their perspective. Is there anything they’re proud of? Anything they’d like you to bring up with the teacher?

Keep an Open Mind
Conferences are a team effort. Come ready to collaborate and focus on what’s best for your child! Some topics — like testing, summer school, or grade retention — may be tough to talk about, but they can be important steps toward helping your child succeed.

Before Your Student-Led Conference

Understand the Process
Student-led conferences are a little different from traditional ones. Your child will take the lead by sharing their work, talking about their progress, and setting personal goals.

Talk with Your Child
Ask what they’re preparing to share. Show interest in their work, and ask open-ended questions to help them feel ready and confident.

Review Any Materials
If the teacher provides a checklist or conference guide, take a moment to look it over so you know what to expect.

During the Conference

Let Your Child Lead the Way
This is your child’s time to shine. Listen as they share their learning, reflect on what’s gone well, and talk about where they want to grow.

Ask Questions and Encourage Them
Try asking things like:

  • “What are you most proud of?”

  • “What’s been the hardest part so far?”

Recognize their effort and growth — it goes a long way in building their confidence.

Collaborate on Next Steps
If your child identifies areas for improvement or sets new goals, talk about how you can help at home and stay connected with their progress.

After the Conference

Reflect Together
Check in with your child about how they felt the conference went. Acknowledge the work they put into it and encourage them to keep moving forward.

Stay Involved
Keep supporting your child by following up on their goals and staying engaged in their learning as the year goes on.
