Tyson

January is School Board Recognition Month, a time to thank our board members for their support of public education.

Did you know?

  • The Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Six of the board members must live in six specific geographic districts, while the seventh can live anywhere in the district at large. They are volunteer (non-paid) positions.

  • The Board of Education is the governing, policy-making body that sets the vision, mission and goals of the district. BOE members make decisions on matters relating to public education and also hire the superintendent.

  • You can see the Board Briefs, agendas and minutes for the Board of Education meetings on the district’s website www.usd495.com and clicking on the Board of Education dropdown menu.

We are nearing the end of our Board spotlight features, but today we get to hear from another new member of the USD 495 Board of Education, Tyson Atteberry!

Why did you decide to serve on our school board?

“I decided to serve on the school board because I felt like it was an opportunity to invest in my hometown. I look forward to being part of the process that ensures success for our students and staff now and in the future.”

What’s something about our schools that makes you really proud?

“I am proud of the facilities in our school district. Driving through our community, you can see that we are investing in these areas. I am also proud of the technology that we are investing in for our staff and students to enhance their learning.”

What’s one challenge you’d like the board to tackle in 2024?

“I think a challenge that we will face every year and that I’d like to see addressed is providing the most up to date resources and curriculum for all of our kids. From the foundational education in elementary school to setting our students up for success at the next level - whether they are going straight into the workforce, attending a traditional 2-4 year university, or enrolling in a trade or tech school.”
