"School Social Workers are humble professionals,” said Rebecca Oliver, LMSW, SSWAA Executive Director, “who often are the voice for students and families but do not always voice the value they add to the school community. School Social Workers rise to support the growing need for mental health services, offering hope for students and families who face various challenges, and advocating for marginalized youth.” #NSWW23 #larnedpride

OPAA, our food service provider, hosted a Recipe Tasting contest today! Students and staff were invited to stop by and try out 4 different recipes. This was a contest between the different OPAA Directors in our region. The official taste-testers were able to rate each food between several categories including taste, presentation, etc. The winner has the chance to send off to the OPAA home office for a chance to have their recipe considered to be added to the menu. Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, Ft. Larned schools offer nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day. #larnedpride #NSBW23

During the school year, school social workers are confronted with challenges, heightened anxieties, and anticipated difficulties. However, they face these challenges with strength and resilience. School Social Workers rise up - supporting their students, families, and school communities. They rise to share hope, to listen and understand, and to challenge inequities. #NSWW23 #larnedpride

Mrs. Reece (LHS Office Manager) came to speak to JAG classes this morning. Mrs. Reece has been working at LHS for 9 years after retiring from the Pawnee County Extension office, where she worked for 36 years. She noted to live by a smile, smile when you're talking on the phone, as you walk down the hallway, just share a smile. She also spoke about how important it is to put in the extra time and effort (at school/work) and how it is always worth the while to take pride in where you work. Mrs. Reece told the students about how every day is an opportunity to learn, how important it is to set goals of all sizes, stay organized for your future self, be honest, be a team player, and bring a positive attitude with you every day. Thank you for shining your light on the students today, Mrs. Reece! #larnedpride

Now that you all know which staff members won at each building, we are ready to announce our District Staff Member of the Month! After determining our winners, we sent their nominations to an outside panel consisting of our city Mayor, the executive director of the Larned Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Ft. Larned Foundation for Education. They selected Mrs. Jami Dryden as our District Staff Member of the Month! Mrs. Dryden was recognized at last night's Board of Education meeting by our Superintendent, Mr. Wachs, the President of the Board, Brent Hemken, and the rest of the BOE. Although this isn't her first year in the district, this is her first year in the teacher role and she has positively strengthened the relationships she had already created with the students. She is involved in Student Ambassadors and is helping lead a small group work study on sound walls and the science of reading, all while being a mentor to our new librarian. Congratulations, Mrs. Dryden, and thank you for all you do for USD 495! #larnedpride

Each month, we would like to recognize a staff member from Larned Middle School and highlight their achievements! Nominations are open to be submitted by students and fellow staff members at LMS to select one staff member to be named their All-Star of the month! This morning, Mrs. Weiser was named the All-Star Staff Member for February! Here are a few things said about her, "She is always there for everyone and is a great person to be around. She can always make you smile when you are having a bad day! She is an awesome teacher and helps everyone with a lot of things. She is always caring and is willing to stop what she is doing to help. She is also an awesome coach, friend, and PE teacher. She couldn’t be better!" Congratulations, Mrs. Weiser! Thank you for everything you do for USD 495! #larnedpride
