On Tuesday, March 11, LMS band and choir students traveled to Pratt for the CKL League Music Festival. In addition to the full band and choir performances, several students prepared and performed solos for a judge, earning Excellent or Outstanding ratings.

Mr. Gladow's 5th grade class took the win in this year’s Cereal Bowl, bringing in a whopping 139 boxes of cereal! 🎉 Thanks to everyone who donated, LES was able to give 422 boxes to the Pawnee County Food Pantry—how awesome is that?! A huge thank you to Mr. Hagerman and his JAG classes for helping us load up and deliver all that cereal to the food pantry. Their help was greatly appreciated!
To celebrate, Mr. Gladow's class picked an Escape Room game where they worked in teams to solve puzzles and unlock padlocks. 🔐 It was so fun watching them think through challenges and work together! And, of course, they wrapped it all up with their choice of a celebration treat—ice cream sundaes!

Yesterday, we had some special guests at LES to say thank you for making Phase 1 of Project Playground a reality.
A huge shoutout to PCCA, CoBank, and CHS for their generous donations totaling $40,000, along with the many businesses, organizations, and families who stepped up to help. We got to show students a video of all the people who pitched in—hauling mulch, setting swings, running semis and loaders, and volunteering their time—to make this project happen last fall. We also took time to thank Darin & Jill Milhon, the McConnaughhay family, and Bar F Farms for helping with concrete and picnic tables over the summer. And a big shoutout to our Playground Committee—Jami Dryden, Shantel Fairchild, Nurse Cindi, Jill Milhon, Traci Wachs, Danielle Fleske, and Jennifer Keith—for their time and effort in improving our playground. We were glad to have the Ft. Larned Foundation for Education there to celebrate with us.
Last, but definitely not least, we presented Kim Barnes from PCCA with the "Heart of LES" award. There aren’t enough words to describe what Kim means to our school, district, and community. Among a list of at least 1,000 other things, he donates bikes for perfect attendance, muffins for the entire USD 495 staff on the first day of school, valentines for every LES student, and books from teachers’ Book Fair Wish Lists. But beyond that, he gives his time, serving on both our elementary and district site councils, and is always finding ways to support 495. There is truly no one more deserving. Thank you, Kim Barnes, for everything you do for our students and staff! 🧡🖤👏
