As we transition into the basketball 2023-2024 season, there are some key changes coming to the game we all love. Here's what you need to know:
🏀 No more 1-1 free throws
🏀 The bonus will always be 2 shots
🏀 Bonus begins at 5 team fouls
🏀 Team fouls will reset each quarter
🏀 The scoreboard will show a max of 5 fouls per quarter
This rule change comes from NFHS for safety reasons and is designed to enhance the flow of the game. Learn more about this change at https://www.nfhs.org/articles/free-throw-procedures-and-foul-administration-amended-in-2023-24-high-school-basketball-rules-changes/?fbclid=IwAR01sCwc6d6exnmtGECnSQorG12UK8pfTQqF3dOVTJoD2n5kk4eo41xGOO0
Please be patient with our officials and scoreboard operators as they adapt to these updates. #larnedpride

Mrs. Fairchild's 1st graders turned into book bakers today! Wearing aprons and baker caps, they explored a selection of fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, and biography books. Each student picked their favorite of each genre, drew a picture on a cupcake-shaped paper, and placed it in their bakery box. Of course, for an extra treat, they enjoyed real cupcakes after lunch! What a fun way to learn about different genres! 📚🧁 #larnedpride #lesfamily #learningisfun

Larned SkillsUSA had a fun Saturday evening when they met up with the Ellinwood club at Barton Community College. They began with a tour of the vocational shops at the college, led by Matt Mazouch. Afterward, the two clubs came together to practice the emblem ceremony before heading out for some bowling. Special thanks to H and H Roofing for providing a delicious supper and covering the cost of bowling for both groups. #larnedpride #bettertogether #besttribeever

Mr. Hewson's woodworking class is still hard at work crafting some gorgeous cutting boards. For some, this is their first time using a drill, and they're nailing it! #larnedpride #besttribeever

🌽The Kansas Corn STEM Program paid us a visit today at LES, diving deep into the world of corn. Our students had a blast discovering the various types of corn, what products are made from it, and learning about the growth and harvest process. Our STEM educator even brought a bushel of corn, letting the students explore and uncover items connected to corn. #lesfamily #larnedpride #learningisfun

We wrapped up our awards this morning by celebrating our 8th graders! Our students were recognized for their grades, attendance, and behavior. Today we started off the day by celebrating our seventh graders' achievements! Today's assembly was filled with recognition for their grades, attendance, and behavior in the first quarter. Mr. Sundahl encouraged students to turn to the parents in the crowd and thank them. Families play such an important part in our students education! The assembly ended with a wave of high fives to Mr. Sundahl for National Principal Month, led by 7th grader Bently Nelson.
Last up, we will recognize our 8th graders tomorrow morning at 8:05. Families are welcome to attend. #larnedpride

Culinary fun at LHS! Last week, Mrs. Reimer's class baked cheesecake, testing out different methods, all resulting in perfection. This week over in Ms. Haney's culinary class, students got hands-on with knife skills and a variety of spices, whipping up some chicken fajitas. fajitas. Yum! #larnedpride #besttribeever

School nurses - they're more than just the ones who hand out cough drops, fix tummy aches, and apply band-aids. They're the caring hearts behind the scenes, ensuring each student in USD 495 receives essential vision, hearing, and dental screenings.
These screenings, following guidelines put in place by the State of Kansas, play a vital role in a child's development. The sooner we detect any vision, hearing, or dental issues, the faster we can provide the support they need. That's a big win for their social, mental, and physical health.
Families might hear from our school nurses if there's a concern about their child's screening results. Please remember, while these screenings offer valuable insights, they aren’t a substitute for a thorough assessment by specialized healthcare professionals.
Thank you, Nurse Cindi and Nurse Amie, for being there to give our students the best possible start, in every way you can. #larnedpride

Mr. Hewson's class has built chicken coops that are for sale! They are $2,000 each. Let Mr. Hewson know if you're interested in purchasing one! #larnedpride
