Larned’s local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter recently donated a number of American flags to Larned Elementary School. Upon their arrival to purchase the flags at Doerrs, the store “paid it forward” and generously donated the flags to their chapter to gift to our school. To mark the occasion on Wednesday, May 17th, DAR, Mrs. McGurk, and a group of fifth grade students joined together to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the National Anthem. The addition of these new flags creates a perfect opportunity to teach our students about the meaning behind the flag and remind them of the sacrifices that are made by brave men and women to ensure our freedoms are protected. USD 495 would like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to DAR and Doerrs and we are truly honored to have the red, white, and blue on display in our hallways, reminding us of unity and pride every time we walk by them. #larnedpride #lesfamily #bettertogether
It was a full house to celebrate our final Rockstar Teacher at Larned High School for the 2022-2023 school year! Each month, students and fellow staff members submit a nomination for the Rockstar Teacher award. We love to recognize these teachers and highlight their achievements. A big congratulations to Mr. Leroy for being our May Rockstar! Whether it's math questions or not even school related, it was said many times that you are always happy to help. The students said you have a way of making your classroom a fun, laid-back environment and teach in a way that makes them want to learn math. Way to go, Leroy! #larnedpride
Mrs. Long’s Bookstore earned $460.00 and they donated their earnings to the LES Ambassador program. LES Ambassadors are thankful for their donation and look forward to putting the money back into LES. #lesfamily

A most heartfelt thanks goes out to all of those who contributed to our very first Adopt A Senior program! Graduating seniors were able to enjoy a cake and punch reception following their practice this morning sponsored by Farmers Bank. Our future's so bright we have to wear shades! A big thank you to Pawnee Valley Ladies League for handing out sunglasses and high fives to LES students as they arrived for our last Hi5 Friday of the school year. This is the first 5th grade class that is moving on to LMS after being with us at the new LES building since they were kindergartners! Last night we hosted "Sign Up, Move Up!" for these students and their families to come decorate yard signs to recognize them as they move on to middle school. I have enjoyed getting to know Kiana in and out of the classroom. She engages with the youth in the community and takes interest in what they are doing. The kids and parents appreciate the "big kids" showing up for their activities. In class, she works hard to complete the tasks given and to comprehend and understand the material covered. - Mrs. Stahlecker
I have enjoyed having Kiana as a student. She has worked hard throughout high school in getting to where she is at. Kiana will go the extra mile to help her fellow classmates understand what is being asked. She is a great leader and role model to her peers. - Mrs. Fox
Kiana has such a joyful presence about her when she walks in the elementary school. The students love her, and you can tell she cares for them too! I have really enjoyed getting to know her this semester. She has expressed interest in becoming an elementary school teacher, and I think her future is bright in this profession! Kiana has been a preschool aide for her entire senior year. She has helped build art projects, participated in countless tea parties, and given hundreds of hugs. She is always kind and has a natural way of working with the youngest Larned students. Kiana is dependable and always has a "can do" attitude.
